Papers of L. A. Shepherd [manuscript], ca.1861-1996.

The papers of L.A. Shepherd consist primarily of correspondence from family members and friends to Shepherd and her longtime partner Norma J. Hofheimer. The collection also includes photographs taken on Shepherd's travels in the United States and Europe (including photographs of the 1939 World's Fair in New York), reminiscences about her travels and correspondence with friends about their travel; correspondence with J.J. Lankes; diaries, photographs and negatives, and scrapbooks; information on Shepherd's career as a pharmacist in Richmond, Va.; and, miscellaneous printed material. Correspondents include Madelain Schuman, Marguerite Pettee, L. Carter Harrison, Nancy King and Doris Booth. The collection also includes papers of Shepherd's mother, Lola Mozingo Shepherd, consisting chiefly of correspondence and family photographs (several are tintypes) and a daguerreotype of Shepherd's grandfather in Confederate uniform.
